Preliminary design for a chimneypiece, ND
Aspect
Elevation of a chimneypiece with tapering, fluted Corinthian pilaster styles, supported by pedestals. The frieze has a central tablet, ornamented with rosettes and flaked by bands of fluting. Above the chimneypiece there is an oval, figurative frame, which is flanked by winged sphinxes and pedestals, which support candle branches and urns, which suspend festoons. The oval frame is surmounted by further festoons and a frieze, which depicts rosettes and swags. Above this a central urn is flanked by winged sphinxes
