Design for a chimneypiece, ND
Aspect
Elevation of a chimneypiece with styles depicting pedestals ornamented with rosettes, festoons and ram mask and supporting turned balusters, which are surmounted by tubular flowers, urns, arabesques and tablets. All this is flanked by panels ornamented with fluting, winged sphinxes and scrolls enclosing cameos. The frieze contains a central mask with a rosette roundel, which is flanked by bands of fluting, which terminate in panels containing draped, winged figures. Above the frieze there is a band ornamented with ox skulls and tripods, with rosettes and festoons of calyx set in between. The mantelpiece is surmounted by a further frieze, which is ornamented by a central cameo depicting putti, with further cameos depicting winged sphinxes beyond and arabesques enclosing rosettes set in between. The mantelpiece supports a central figurative urn, which is flanked by lekythoi, with pedestals beyond. The pedestals are ornamented with putti bearing drop calyx, flanked by dolphins and sre surmounted by clocks, which support eagles
