Notes
Dance has enlarged the cases for specimens and books and the framing panel pilasters have alternative treatments including the addition of guttae. The plain, dark chimney-piece now bears a tablet having a pediment with 'antefixae' or corner-stops, supported by two caryatids and with a roundel between them with the head in bas relief of .JOHN HYNTER.
'Section in Ledgement' refers to the stretching out of the semi-domed ceiling in sectional elevation 'so that the dimensions of the different sides may be easily ascertained' (OED). Dance uses the same term for a plan of the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the Egyptian Hall in the Mansion House and on [SM D5/3/39] here.
