The two elliptical lanterns were estimated at £560, the cost accounted for by the part-use of mahogany, such a hardwood being more long lasting than softwood. A ground floor plan ([SM D5/1/9] dated 27 January 1810) shows elongated elliptical roof lanterns with similar dimensions to those here which were not executed.
