Notes
The lantern is marked 22 feet and 10 3/8 inches long and 8 feet wide. Dance occasionally made a note to himself on his drawings and probably the scribbled 'Joseph Kay' (architect, 1775-1847) is a reminder of some sort. Kay had been a pupil of S. P. Cockerell and a Continental travelling companion to Robert Smirke and was employed by the Marquess of Camden's Camden Town estate in London, originally planned by Dance c.1790. Kay must have had all sorts of other connections with Dance.
