The Surgeons had moved into 41 Lincoln's Inn Fields by January 1797. The purchase of 42 Lincoln's Inn Fields to the east was discussed from June 1801 and finalised in 1803. The back part of No.42 is not shown on this plan and thus the decision to site the Hunterian Museum on the east side must already have been made.
