Preliminary design for a gate house lodge with a bell tower, ND
Aspect
Elevation of a one-and-a-half-storey, three-bay building, with a pitched roof surmounted by chimneys and a bell tower supporting a weathervane. At the ground-storey level there is a central, semi-circular-headed entrance, set behind a rustic columnar screen. Above the entrance there is a semi-circular-headed, half-height window, and all this is set within a relieving brick arch. The entrance is flanked by leaded windows, and there is a brick string course above. The roof line is ornamented with rustic dentils, and the building is flanked by rustic Doric porticoes. Beyond the building there is a low wooden fence and two gateways. The left-hand gateway is for a foot path, and it is ornamented with a central lozenge. The right-hand gateway is for carriages, and this is ornamented with a semi-circular band
