Notes
In the drawing, the two Roman Doric columns are similar in design though the Antoninus columns (AD 161) is shown as slimmer and smaller and the pedestal (now within the Hemicycle in the Giardino della Pigna of the Vatican) is plainer. Trajan's column (AD 113) is without the statue of St Peter put there in the late 16th century. Both columns have guard rails around the abacus that enclose similar pepper-pot terminations. The carving on the spiral band is not shown.
