Purpose

[1] Design for a house, 1790, unexecuted

Aspect

Ground (basement) storey plan of a house comprising a rectangular house divided into a series of small rooms with a central bow to the rear and small staircase to the front. Rooms include a butler’s pantry, servant’s hall and bedrooms and wine cellar. There are flanking pavilions which contain an ale and wine cellar on the left, and kitchen with a scullery and pantry on the right, and are connected to the house by lateral wings containing a passage and small rooms. Adjoining the right pavilion is a services wing containing two ranges enclosing a arcaded court. Rooms include a privy, dairy and spaces for coals, wood and ashes
