Purpose

[89] Finished drawing for a tureen, 1773, executed with minor alterations

Aspect

Elevation of a tureen with a base ornamented with bands of laurel leaf tips and beading. The tureen is ornamented with gadrooning, guilloche enclosing rosettes, and a ram mask bearing a festoon of beading and flanked by rosettes and festoons of husks. Above the ram mask there are bands of foil, calyx and rosettes, and a band of beading. The handles are formed from lion masks, and the tureen is surmounted by sphinxes. The lid is ornamented with a band of arabesques supporting anthemia and calyx, and a band of enclosed drop calyx. The lid is surmounted with a handle in the form of a wreath
