[43] Unfinished design for a chimneypiece for the second drawing room, c1772, unexecuted
Aspect
Elevation of a chimneypiece with the lining bordered with reed and ribbon, and with Corinthian column stiles wrapped in vines. The columns are flanked by Corinthian pilasters ornamented with masks, drop calyx, and rosettes. The capitals contain urns and panels depicting draped figures. There is a central figurative tablet, with alternative friezes to the left and right. On the left-hand side the frieze is ornamented with ox skulls and swags, and on the right-hand side with half-putti and arabesques. Above the frieze there are bands of dentils and laurel leaf tips
