[26] Unfinished design for a chimneypiece for the octagonal dressing room, 1772, possibly executed
Aspect
Elevation of a chimneypiece, with the lining bordered with a band of rosettes and a band of laurel leaf tips. The Doric pilaster stiles are ornamented with rosettes and ribbons, which suspend drop calyx, anthemia, rosettes, crossed quivers and peltoid shields. The capitals contain a torch crossed with a quiver, and the frieze is ornamented with a semi-circular-headed band enclosing calyx. There is a central tablet containing a pedestal flanked by half-putti and arabesques. Above the frieze there is a cornice ornamented with bands of beading, laurel leaf tips and guilloche
