[67] Design for a bookcase for Lady Williams-Wynn’s dressing room, 1776, not executed
Aspect
Elevation of a bookcase set within a niche. The base of the bookcase is ornamented with a central panel containing calyx, and a tubular flower supporting an urn embellished with ram masks bearing husks. The urn is surmounted by an anthemion and flanked by rosettes and arabesques. The central panel is flanked by further panels containing arabesques, calyx, tubular flowers, and urns bearing swags, surmounted by anthemia. The bookcase has tapering term pilasters, ornamented with drop calyx, and shelves with aprons of enclosed drop calyx. There is a fluted frieze with a central tablet containing a roundel flanked by festoons of husks, and this is surmounted by a draped figure flanked by putti bearing books
