[36] Design for a ceiling for the third drawing room, 1773, possibly executed

Aspect

Plan of a rectangular, tripartite ceiling, with a central rectangular compartment ornamented with a figurative oval, set within a band of calyx and rosettes, a band of anthemia enclosed within semi-circular compartments, and an oval band of guilloche. Beyond this there is a band of Vitruvian scroll and anthemia, and a further band of Vitruvian scroll with rosettes, festoons, and figurative roundels beyond. The corners of the compartments contain fans ornamented with part-paterae, calyx and rosettes. The central compartment is flanked by narrow strip compartments ornamented with rosettes, arabesques, and calyx. Each compartment is bordered by guilloche, and all is set within a band of Vitruvian scroll and anthemia
