Purpose

[1] Finished drawing for the basement storey of a house, c1772, unexecuted

Aspect

Plan of the basement storey of a seven-bay building, with proposed alterations. There is a central entrance to the north which links to a passage. The passage leads to domestic offices, a dog-legged staircase, and a courtyard. To the west there is a wine cellar and a vaulted ale and cider cellar. There is a central vaulted wine cellar containing wine bins, with a proposed alternative servants’ hall. Beyond this there is a further staircase, and there is a cellar for small beer to the south. To the east of the building there are proposed alterations for a kitchen accessed via steps and containing a range and a copper. The kitchen links to a scullery, with larders and an additional staircase beyond. To the south there is a coal cellar, with proposed alterations for a cellar with wine bins
