Purpose

[3] Design for the ground storey of a house, 1778, unexecuted

Aspect

Plan of the ground storey of a v-shaped building, formed with a central rear rotunda, flanked by four-bay wings. In the principal front there is a central, stepped, portico entrance leading to an apsidal-ended hall. The hall is flanked by staircases, with a powdering room set behind the right-hand staircase. To the rear of the house there is a circular room which forms a five-bay bow and contains a drawing room with steps leading to the grounds. Beyond the drawing room there is a v-shaped passage containing niches, and the passage links to a library and eating room, which are set within the flanking wings
