Purpose
[4] Preliminary design for the first storey of a house, c1778
Aspect
Plan of the first storey of a v-shaped building, formed with a rear rotunda flanked by four-bay wings. The rotunda creates a five-bay, rear bow and this is divided to form semi-circular bedrooms. The bedrooms are altered to allow for the elliptical staircase beyond. Towards the front of the house there is a paired, semi-circular staircase forming an oval, with apsidal landings set behind collonaded screens. This is flanked by further bedrooms, with the rooms towards the principal front linking to water closets set within irregular spaces
