Purpose

[11] Design for the first storey of a building, 1766, unexecuted

Aspect

Plan of the first storey of a thirteen-by-five-bay building with a balustraded portico across the central five bays of the principal front. Within there is a square room with niches with a rectangular room to the right-hand side. The room has columnar screened ends with apsidal spaces beyond. At the rear of the building there is a central three-bay bow window set behind a balustraded columnar screen. There is a rectangular gallery space with unusually narrow rectangular storage spaces for the storage of organ barrels to the rear. On the left-hand side of the building there is a central room with an apse and bow window. On the right-hand side of the building there is a further room with an apsidal end mirrored by the bow window and this links to a circular room at the rear of the building. The principal building is flanked by curved links. On the left-hand side the link connects to a five-by-three-bay building containing servants’ rooms and a double-height brew house. To the rear of this there is a further six-by-two-bay building containing further bedrooms. The link on the right-hand side connects to a five-by-three-bay building containing a double-height kitchen and servants’ bedrooms. To the rear of this there is a further six-by-two-bay building containing further bedrooms
