[12] Design for the first storey of an octagonal house, 1779, unexecuted

Aspect

Plan of the first storey of an octagonal building with a twenty-four-bay circumference. The building is formed around an octagonal drum containing a colonnaded, bifurcated staircase. The central drum is surrounded by rooms, including ante rooms set behind double colonnaded screens, and these lead to an apsidal ended dining room and drawing room. There is an oval dressing room and a semi-circular lobby leading to an additional staircase, which is circular. Each three bays of the façade are set behind balustrades and flanked by paired columns
