Design for stable offices, c1786, unexecuted (1)
Notes
Adam’s design for a new and extensive stable block was never carried out. Instead, as Turton’s letter indicates, repairs were made to an existing stable block. The letter also notes in listing the accounts, the need for a ‘Bell Hanger’ at £23. 9s. 4d. This could relate to the clock gifted to Turton by George III, taken from the turret at Horse Guards Parade. The clock was then installed in Brasted’s stable block.
