[22] Design for the basement storey of a house and kitchen offices, c1784, as executed

Aspect

Plan of the basement storey of a five-by-three-bay building, with a central lobby connecting to a passage (east) and stairs (west), and this is flanked by domestic offices, with a barrel-vaulted room containing wine bins to the south. To the west of the principal building, a covered colonnaded passage and a two-bay link building lead to the kitchen offices, which is within a three-bay block. Beyond this, there is a colonnaded courtyard for the storage of wood and coal. There are preliminary designs for alterations to the courtyard, extending to the north, south and west, and for a central basin (pencil). Banks with trees are also shown (pencil)
