Design for a bridge, as executed (1)
Notes
The date for Adam’s bridge for the road between Mistley and Manningtree (known as the Hopping Bridge), is uncertain. Positioned just to the west of Mistley Church, it remains in situ, although it is much altered. The northern section of the bridge has been replaced, along with Adam’s balustraded southern face. However, ornamental elements of Adam’s bridge are still visible, including the bracket over the segmental arch and some fragments of the original balustrade, which are preserved within the later wall.
