Designs for windows and associated masonry elements for Holy Trinity Church, Marylebone, London, 1824-26 (4)
Notes
The first designs in this group show all the window frames Soane intended to use on Holy Trinity Church, Marylebone; but in the end were not used. This was in 1824, when Soane was still trying to get to grips with the final design. The first of the other three drawings dates to the time when the decision to build was finally nearing, whilst the last two were made during the building process. The small square nave windows with a large arched window for the gallery each separated by a broad transom followed the design for Protestant churches, and may be contrasted with earlier designs for the interior (SM 54/2/8; 54/3/15) where Soane placed smaller windows over larger ones. This arrangement started to be used on the designs from late 1824 such as SM 54/2/11, 13, 14.
