Curatorial note
With two flush panelled doors with a vertical moulding towards the outer edges and the panels set towards the inner edges which are also outlined by simple bead mouldings; right hand door with original brass ring handle; no sign of a lock or any bolts or catches; the top of the cupboard has a rounded front edge; top and front painted a brown colour, the sides painted green; the exterior previously painted stone colour; plain boarded back; the interior fitted with one fixed, reeded, shelf and a central divider; the back of the doors painted a stone colour.
This cupboard appears to date from the Soane period and is presumably a basic piece of kitchen, or office, furniture; the ‘1 Deal cupboard with folding doors & shelf’ listed as being in the Back Kitchen in the 1837 inventory seems likely to be this one.
