Curatorial note

With plain gallery; large central circular hole for basin (missing) and two small circular holes in the two back corners for cups (now missing); open on four sides below with four plain tapering legs; a pull-out shelf with two replacement brass knobs.

On 18 July 1808 Soane paid Foxhall and Co. £1.10.0 ‘For a mahogny square bason stand & glass cups’,1 which seems to be this piece.

In 1837 (Furniture and Fittings inventory) this washstand was in the large front attic of No. 13.
