A praying man, stained glass panel, Netherlandish, 17th century

Clear glass with black and brown paint, yellow stain, blue, red enamel

Height: 277 mm
Width: 181mm

Museum number: SG78

Curatorial note

A prosperous-looking man kneels on a cushion, praying. He wears a bracelet on each wrist and his hat rests on a table at his side. Through a partly curtained archway buildings are visible.

This is possibly a presentation panel, or may be the donor of a companion scene now lost The perspective drawing of the arch and table is poor as is the rendering of the folds of the curtain. The man’s feet do not convincingly belong to the body. A poor piece.
