Curatorial note

St Margaret, carrying a book with her left arm, points to the winged dragon behind her, which looks up at the Saint. She wears a head-dress from which a many-pointed halo streams, and holds her dress revealing her petticoat beneath. The very dark background of coarsely stippled matt from which the figures are picked out and highlighted with yellow stain gives a dramatic effect. As with many German representations of saints at this time there is no background scene.
