Curatorial note

This fragment, along with Soane S106 (Vermeule 75), Soane S95 (Vermeule 76) and Soane M590 (Vermeule 78) are from the same or matching bases. The enrichment of this one and S95 is similar with a fluted torus moulding leading into the fluted half cavetto visible as an upper course (this is particularly clear in S95).

Provenance help-art-provenance

See Cornelius Vermeule, unpublished catalogue of the Antiquities at Sir John Soane's Museum, Introduction, transcription of Tatham letters, List 1, no.25 (showing that some items in Lists 1 and 3 came from a common source).
