Cast of leaves and foliage from a soffit in an unknown Roman building

Plaster cast

Museum number: M1289

On display: Drawing Office - also known as the Students Room (pre-booked tours only)
All spaces are in No. 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields unless identified as in No. 12, Soane's first house. For tours https://www.soane.org/your-visit

Curatorial note

This is presumably a cast from a well-known building as Soane owned several casts seemingly from the same source (see also M1318, M1437).

The AB inventory entry (1837) for this item links it with M1437: 'Fragment of foliage ornament from the Antique soffite [sic] 1437'. The entry for 1437 suggests that it may be from a fragment in the Farnese Gardens.
