A cupid supporting a coronet and an escutcheon or shield (pair with A24)

Terracotta

Museum number: A66

Curatorial note

With A24 one of a pair of companion figures, each consisting of a cupid holding, with right and left hands respectively, the coronet which surmounts a scrolled cartouche in the centre of which is a convex, ovoid armorial shield. In the free hand each cupid holds a short baton. Both figures originally had wings, but these seem to have been broken off and the junctions roughly repaired. Both heads and the left arm of A24 have at some time been broken and mended.
