Design for the chimneypiece for the front parlour, c1769-70; it is not known if this design was executed (1)

The front parlour would have been located at the front, on the ground storey of the house.

It is not known if this design was executed as there is no known photographic record of the chimneypiece prior to demolition.

The design is similar to that designed by Adam in 1766 for the housekeeper’s room at Shelburne House (Adam volume 22/119). The Shelburne House design is inscribed in pencil with the words, Parlor / [cropped] House, suggesting that Adam had intended to reuse it in the parlour of another house, corresponding with the intended location of this design.
