Designs for alterations to the house, 1774-75, partly as executed (2)

These drawings for alterations and the refacing of the house cannot date to any later than 1775 as it was in that year that works on the house were undertaken to Adam's designs. The scheme shown in the extant drawings was partly executed. The ornamental details shown on the elevation of the principal (south) front (Adam volume 42/58) were executed in accordance with Adam's design. The refacing work, however, was completed in Liardet's stucco composition, and it was necessary for Eva Maria Garrick, following her husband's death, to replace this with the surviving brickwork. The plan of the building (Adam volume 42/59) includes the addition of a new office block to the left-hand side of the house (shown in black). This was not executed, and instead offices to an alternative design was built on this plot during the nineteenth century.
