Preliminary design and finished drawings for the ceiling and walls of the drawing room, 1771, executed with minor alterations (2)

The drawing room is located at the front of the house, on the first storey, and is now used as the main dining room of Crockford's Club. Adam's interior decoration was executed almost in accordance with the extant drawings, and survives in situ. Elements which vary from the drawings include the chimneypiece.

The apse and its three niches at the east end of the room were, during the twentieth century, removed so that the room is now full width for its entire length, and a new portion of the vaulted ceiling has been added to cover the space where the apse's semi-dome was formerly located.
