Record drawings for friezes for various rooms, ND (4)

It is not possible to assign a date range to these drawings as they are included in a volume of record drawings: drawn directly on to the page rather than pasted in. As such this collection of record drawings appear to have been produced as a complete work and may have been compiled some time after the work at 23 Grosvenor Square.

The friezes for the ante room, the second drawing room, the great drawing room, and the Etruscan dressing room (Adam volume 53/6) all correspond with those illustrated in the second volume of The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam (part 1, plates 2, 4 and 5). As such we know that these friezes are shown as executed in Adam's drawing. Further to this, as the house was demolished in 1862, and the other friezes were not shown in the Works, it is not known whether they were executed in accordance with the extant drawings.
