There is some question as to whether this temple was executed. It must be noted that it does appear a little east of the house in Giovanni Vitalba and Benedetto Pastorini's engraving showing a view of the south front of the house for The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam (1774, Volume I, Part II, plate ii). This however, could be an invention.

There is no archival evidence of this temple having been constructed, but Harris suggests that it was executed as it corresponds closely with the executed design for the south front of the house, and Bryant has suggested that it would have acted as a clever screen to the road. Moreover, it is important to note that in 1974, when the Greater London Council were making repairs to a burst water main they discovered brick foundations in this location to the east of the house.
