New Surgeon's apartments and Artificer's yard, 1818-22 and 1827 (4)

The SM collection holds only three drawings for the later of Soane’s Chelsea works: two drawings for the Surgeon’s apartments and one for the Artificers’ Yard. Useful additions to the SM collection for these two buildings are in The National Archives (Works 31/241 and 246). The new Artificers’ Yard was built between 1822 and 1823 and the Surgeon and Whitster’s residence was built between 1821 and 1823 at a cost of £6,976.16.3 – the main part for the Hospital surgeon, Thomas Keate, a close personal friend of Soane. The latter survives today.
