Finished drawing for a ceiling for the back parlour, 1771, executed with minor alterations (1)

The back parlour is located at the rear of the house, adjacent to the eating room, on the ground floor, immediately beneath the second drawing room.

The ceiling was executed with minor alterations to Adam's design. The ivy scrolls are much finer in execution, and the figures supported by tubular flowers in each corner are replaced with enclosed medallions. Despite considerable damage in the 1990s owing to water ingress, the ceiling survives in situ and has since been restored (see scheme notes).
