Variant unfinished design and record drawing for a mirror frame for the tapestry room, 1775, drawing 52 executed with minor alterations (2)

The mirror frame for the tapestry room was executed with minor alterations to Adam volume 20/43, with clothed figures, and survives in situ. It makes use of the same ornamental crest as the tapestry itself, consisting of a pedestal and tazza flanked by figures. Adam could not have seen the tapestries when these designs were made in November 1775, as they were not delivered to London until the following summer. Adam must, however, have made use of Jacques Neilson's drawing of part of the tapestry, and echoed the design accordingly.
