Design for the ceiling for the hall, 1763, executed with alterations (1)

The hall fills the east side of the central block, behind Adam's portico, and was made by knocking the original hall and private dining room together.

This ceiling design was executed, albeit with a different cove, and remains in situ. It has received major conservation, and Adam's executed cove was redecorated with lozenge-shaped coffering in the nineteenth century.

There is a plan and laid out wall elevations for this room, almost as executed, at the V&A Museum. This drawing shows the Adam design for Joseph Rose's plasterwork frames (in situ) for paintings by Antonio Zucchi which were sold in 1921.
