Design and finished drawings for the extension to the house, c1760-61, unexecuted (3)

The pink wash in Adam volume 31/112 indicates the proposed new masonry, allowing us to see the structure of the older building.

According to King Adam volume 31/111 is a survey drawing. This is partially true as it shows the original house, with unaltered fenestration, albeit with the octagonal extension added to the centre. Moreover, the pencil-drawn alternative window is that proposed for the canted front of the extension in Adam volume 31/110. Adam 31/110 also shows the proposed removal of the original pedimented windows.

There is a series of undated drawings for improving the east front of the castle in an unknown hand in the Sherborne Castle archive. They all share Adam's concept of filling the recessed centre with an octagonal structure.

No alterations were made to the east front of the castle, and it remains as it was prior to the 1760s: with pedimented windows and a recessed centre
