Preliminary designs, and designs for the atlantes on the funerary monument of Lieutenant-Colonel Roger Townshend, 1760, as executed (4)

These Native American atlantes (cultural group unknown) presumably relate to the location of Townshend's death at Ticonderoga, New York. Though this atlantes design is a variant to those seen in other Adam elevations for the monument (Adam volume 54/2/8, 54/2/27 and 19/9-10) in which they are shown dressed as Roman enslaved people), this is the design which was executed and remains in situ.
