Design for a reduced east wing (1)

The drawing has running dimensions which suggests that it may have been used to estimate the quantity and price of bricks required for the east front. This is now reduced to five bays (73 feet 4 1.8 inches) from the earlier scheme with seven bays (drawing 5, 103 feet). Indicating perhaps that while the executed plan with east and west wings of equal length has been adopted, the attic storey shown on drawing 15 (for the east elevation, close to this drawing, and dated 22 January 1788) has not yet been agreed.

Thus in the designs made after those shown on drawings 1 to 9 there are two obvious changes that emerge: the adoption of a square U-plan with east and west wings of the same length and the addition of a third storey.
