The gardener's house is to the west of the house. As shown in drawings for the garden (drawings 21 to 24), the garden wall is attached to the house. Censuses from 1841, 1851 and 1861 record that gardener John Hughes and his wife Sarah lived in the house (D. Jenkins, p.19).
