Design for alterations to the first floor, 1800

Pink wash on the drawings shows Soane's minor alterations to the south end of the first floor. On 14 January 1800, Soane sent Lady Hardwicke plans and estimates for alterations to the Gallery and for bedrooms over the offices. Drawing 28 is a design for these building works, showing a sequence of rooms added to the south-east corner and alterations to the gallery.

Three chimney-pieces are inserted and narrow columns frame a recess in the north-facing dressing room. The three new rooms are off a landing on the secondary staircase. The gallery is shown without partitions. See drawing 13 for a first floor plan dated August 1791.
