Record drawings and two made for publication (4)

Drawings 257 to 259 show plans of the house as built. Drawing 260 shows three laid-out wall elevations for the vestibule and includes the S-shape patterned railing that was probably intended to surround an opening in the vestibule ceiling to let in light from the lantern above the attics. It suggests that this is how Soane would ideally have liked to build his vestibule, but a plaster flower was ordered in 1801 and is there today so it seems unlikely that the opening was ever constructed. Obviously the published images were idealistic.
