Designs for finishings to the staircase, 7 November 1789 (2)

The staircase climbs two storeys, from the basement to the first floor. Both flights are on a half-turn plan with landings, the lower flight contained within a smaller stairwell to accommodate a water closet behind the stairs. At 3 feet 9 inches, the main flight is three inches wider than the lower flight. The staircase is set within one bay of the north elevation and crosses in front of the window.

The doorcases have simple bead mouldings; the doors opposite the staircase on both basement and 'principal' level are surmounted high on the wall by a blind segmental arch of angled bead moulding; this moulding pattern is carried through to the first floor by the inclusion of a round-headed arch at the top of the stairs.
