Finished drawing for a console table for the tapestry room, 1775, executed with minor alterations (1)

The tapestry room console table was executed in painted wood with a scagliola slab, in accordance with Adam's drawing, albeit with a slab ornamented with a simplified colour scheme, and the winged sphinxes omitted. It survives in situ.

The decorative motifs ornamenting this table echo those elsewhere in the room. On the slab the anthemion border is repeated in the borders of the ceiling and carpet, and the fan motif appears again in the corners of the ceiling and carpet; the table frame frieze makes use of the same enclosed rosettes as the mirror frame, and the painted medallions mimic those on the chimneypiece.
