Window

This section includes designs for the central 'inside' window and also the 'outside sash[es]' with steps. Drawings for the sashes [35] and [36] indicate the inside window with its four mullions. A note on drawing [36] 'This Design is made to / to correspond as near as / possible with the enlarged / Windows of the Basement / Story as they are at present' is a reminder that the Gothic library was at basement level and a correspondence between the 'enlarged' windows of neighbouring rooms was sought in the design of the sashes that were both a disguise as well as protective.
