Finished drawing for the boudoir, 1780-81, unexecuted (1)

A boudoir was a lady's dressing room in which she could privately entertain her female friends. This unexecuted example, for the Duchess of Cumberland, was intended for the principal (first) floor, at the southern end of the western wing of the house, to take the place of the dressing room in Brettingham's state apartment.
