Alternative preliminary design and designs for the interior of the saloon, c1769, 27/36 and 39/16 thought to be as executed (3)

The saloon was the principal reception room of the house. Written sources describe the walls ornamented with trophies and heraldic motifs, with pointed arches around the windows, with the central three windows set within a vaulted recess, and the whole decorated in a blue and white colour scheme. Adam volumes 27/37 and 39/16 are thought to show part of the executed scheme. The eighteenth-century interior of this room was demolished by Sir Anthony Salvin in the 1850s.
